32 already?


I started a list for my 28th birthday of things I wanted to accomplish in the next year. It was featured in a previous post. Numbers 1-28 below are from the original list. If they are crossed out, I managed to do them in that year. I may or may not have written a blog post about it. If I do have a post, I'll include the link.

The 28 list rolled into year 29 as I had so much undone. Twenty-nine led to a depressing 30. How can I go 2 years and not manage to do the majority of these things. The answer is that I work too much and take care of others to much. I skipped 31 because I couldn't face another year of not crossing anything off my list.

I'm now 32 and little progress has been made...even more depressing. Knowing that this next year has much change coming, I've revived the list. I'm working my way through it the best I can.

Now it's up to 32....
  1. Fly a kite.
  2. Picnic at the zoo.
  3. Beach day (with a big umbrella).
  4. Fireworks! (just watching them....playing with them is too dangerous unless there are sparklers).
  5. Go to a drive in movie.
  6. Concert at the House of Blues -  Houston.
  7. Find decent teriyaki in H-Town.
  8. Bowl a 150 game.
  9. Volunteer 280 hours.
  10. See a sunrise over the water.
  11. Go on a boat ride.
  12. Develop a workout routine that doesn't require equipment.
  13. Quit using "like" as a verbal filler.
  14. Get a henna tattoo on my hand or foot...a really rad one.
  15. Develop my own catch phrase.
  16. Get a concealed carry permit.
  17. Donate an entire paycheck.
  18. Listen to every song in my iTunes library.
  19. Win an award.
  20. Kiss baby Ben...Kate's son. (He's not a baby anymore and he has a brother!)
  21. Make a s'more around a bonfire. 
  22. Apply to graduate school.
  23. Collect a Fiestaware service for 8.
  24. Go on one normal date.
  25. Reconnect with one old friend.
  26. Witness a miracle.
  27. Pay off one credit card.
  28. .....Taking suggestions????????? (I didn't get any....so it stayed blank)
  29. Pass my FNP Boards
  30. Whittle down my fleece collection. I have waaaaay too much and it needs a home.
    This is not my collection...it is more than this.
  31. Two more passport stamps
  32. Finish my MPH Certificate

This is about the only picture taken of me in Honduras this year that I want to look at. I met this sweet lady last year after she came to the clinic. She was 92 then....93 this year. She came last year in the same pink dress and managed to sweet talk me into giving her extra toys for her grandkids. Seeing her is always a joy. Her closed mouth smile hides her nearly gone teeth. Intuition 101: Trusting the Little Voice

There is so much I do as a nurse that requires more than a describable set of skills. There is basic physical assessment and the ability to translate those seen and felt things into written word for mandatory documentation. There is the other set that requires you to know yourself and trust that your training and intuition work together to give insights. This is not something than can be taught. It can be developed though I would contend that some folks have a greater ability to tap into this "sixth sense" than others. (My own opinion from observation and working with diverse mixes of people). For the rationals who need concrete: It's a bit like the concept from Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcom Gladwell. The flash of intuition mixed with the knowledge to interpret it can lead to insight into patient condition. This intuitive judgement is honed by experience, knowledge, training and mentoring. Things to Put in Your Mouth: Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookies

Finished Product Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookies This recipe is one I found to use up a couple pints of raspberries I bought at Costco. I can only eat so many plain. they were cheap and in season and I was a little too ambitious in my shopping. Before they went bad, I went on the hunt. Thanks to Pintrest, I found this recipe. I figured these round treats would work out well since I like raspberries and chocolate chip cookies.  Use the link above to access the original recipe and photos that are much better than mine. I don't take any credit for it. These smell amazing while baking and after!  Tips: * If the raspberries are really soft, don't halve them or you end up with raspberry mush. * Fold in ever so gently to a soft dough...like more gently than handling a newborn.
